CARSON (6-0, 5-0) AT SPANISH SPRINGS (5-1, 4-1)
Offense
The Senators have outgained Spanish Springs by approximately 70 yards per contest. With speedy Dylan Sawyers out last week, Carson's offense rackd up 52 points in just two quarters and halfback Jon Parker gained more than 80 yards on 8 carries. He's a handful to stop. If Sawyers is unable to play, and that will be a game-time decision, his spot goes to Connor Beattie, who has gained 359 yards and scopred seven times. Trey Jensen was very good under center, comleting 8 of 12, and three of the four incompletions were drops. Tanner Oates starts at QB for the Cougars, and he's passed for 729 yards and five scores. His favorite target is Dylan Wolf, who has 27 catches for 454 yards and three scores. Conrad Tanyi has scored 10 times and averages 6 yards a carry. Roman said the Cougars have the best tandem of receivers he's seen thus far.
Advantage: Carson (a slight edge)
Defense
Carson has 14 interceptions in six games and just five giveaways for a plus-9. Carson gives up 15.5 a game compared to 21 for Spanish Springs. Chance Quilling has been solid in the secondary, and save for an off night against Douglas, Colby Blueberg has been making plays at cornerback. Carson coach Blair Roman is impressed with the Cougars' defense, which is led by linebacker Schultz Spencer and Austin Rauh. Carson needs to be stingier and more consistent.
Advantage: Carson
Special Teams
Carson's kick coverage, led by Quilling, who snaps on punts, has been very good. Quilling made two nice stops inside the 15 on kick returns. Austin Pacheco has the best leg in the league as evidenced by his 45 and 49-yard field goals.
Advantage: Carson
Prediction: According to Roman, Sawyers (hip flexor) will be a game-time decision. If Sawyers doesn't go, there will be a drop-off, but Carson should still move the ball offensively. Spanish Springs is very solid on both sides of the ball.
Score: Carson 24, Spanish Spings 19
