GOP represents only the interests of the rich
It is the job of our two political parties to convince us that they have the best plan in a reasonable debate focusing on relevant issues. And their candidates are absolutely accountable for what they say and do. Their character is not revealed by their bank accounts, but by what they say they stand for and what they do about it.
The GOP most definitely supports the rich when we look at what they say and do. Let's start with apologizing to BP for their shakedown for their destruction of the Gulf - yes, they later recanted, but that shows where their first thoughts are. Then let's look at what they have blocked - the extension of unemployment benefits at every opportunity, Wall Street reforms, and health care reforms, to name a few.
Now let's look at what they plan to do - privatize Social Security so that Wall Street gamblers will have more of our money to play with and phase out Medicare. Studies have shown that the rich get much richer under Republican administrations than under Democratic administrations. And where does the Republican Party get its funding for campaigns? It gets 90 percent from billionaires.
Republican Plan: The rich can do anything as long as they promise to create a few jobs, in China, et al; let the middle class bear the consequences - and if your old ideas don't impress them, make it all about character and irrelevant issues.

School bond makes sense for children's safety
I support the 2010 school bond. My wife and I are 15-year residents of Carson City. My three children are students within the school district. This recession has hit many of us hard, including the school district. With fewer students, the district receives less money to maintain its facilities. Similar to our own homes, the district has continual maintenance needs (in order to) to keep up with demand and to fix small problems before they grow into larger ones.
This bond will allow the district to make improvements that will not only repair and improve facilities, but will do so in a manner that makes the facilities more energy efficient and safe. This efficiency saves the district money, which then rolls into operating budgets and even into the classroom.
This bond will not raise taxes. The district has even decided to voluntarily lower the amount of money they receive from property taxes, from $0.46 per assessed $100 value down to approximately $0.43. They too are doing more with less, while using capital dollars to save operating efficiencies. The past three bonds are proof of their responsible spending and commitment to our children.
Please support this bond. It makes sense for our children's safety and well being. Thank you.

Thank you for return of Tuesday Nevada Appeal
I would like to thank you for bringing back the Tuesday edition of the Nevada Appeal. Let me explain why it is important to me.
My husband brings the Appeal in each morning while I am still in bed. I look at the obits to see if my name is in there. If not, I get up and make the bed and start the daily routine like showering, getting dressed, fixing breakfast, etc. If my name is in the obits, I will not get up and get to work.
Your decision to not have a paper on Monday and Tuesday really threw me for a loop. You see, I am in my eighties, and get confused easily. If there is no paper, I don't know what to do. There are two choices - either stay in bed in case I should be in the obits, or get up and take my chances.
Now that we receive a paper on Tuesdays, I only have one day that starts off with such confusion. Thank you again for making my life a little easier.
