The La Ka Le'l Be Powwow hosted by the Carson Colony begins Saturday.
Native American tribes from across the United States will compete during the three-day event which boasts Native American crafts and food booths as well as a pageant.
"Crafts people from all over, Arizona, Nevada, Idaho, we've gotten calls from people pretty much all over the West Coast that want to sell their crafts," said Lana Hicks, who along with her daughter Lori Pasqua organized the event.
Powwow competition begins Saturday with the grand entry at 1 p.m. The Washoe Warrior Society will be the honor guard for the opening and closing ceremonies. On Saturday, Oct. 30, preliminary dancing beings at 7 p.m. and the finals are Sunday at noon. An award will be given in each style: jingle, fancy and traditional, in three categories: children's, teen and adult. A Golden Age category will be open to tribe elders.
Hicks said that Friday night the Miss La Ka Le'l Be Princess pageant will take place at 7 p.m.
Also on Saturday there will be a Halloween costume contest.
Sunday there also will be a hand drum competition whenever the powwow competition ends.
"Everything is open to the public and we welcome everyone to come join us," said Hicks.
