Explain your background and how this qualifies you for the position:
I started with the Carson City Assessor's Office on May 5, 1993. I was hired as a personal property appraiser and obtained my State of Nevada certification shortly thereafter. I later earned my certification as a real property appraiser. In 1997, I was promoted to senior appraiser. In 1999, I was promoted to chief deputy assessor. In 2002, I was elected to the office of Carson City assessor. In 2006, I was re-elected.
I am familiar with Nevada's complex property tax system, which is one of the most intricate taxing systems in the nation. I also have extensive experience working with the property tax laws and regulations including assisting staff with deadlines.
I have an associate's degree in general business from WNC and a bachelors degree in accounting from the University of Nevada, Reno. I held a Nevada real estate license for four years, increasing my experience in local real estate to more than 21 years. I am currently the president of the Nevada Assessor's Association.
What are the important issues that you would address if elected:
It is the Nevada Legislature's duty to prepare and pass the laws which govern Nevada taxes. It is the assessor's job to carry out those laws. During the last four Legislative sessions I have monitored many of these bills, attended hearings and testified on matters of concern to the taxpayers of Carson City. If re-elected, I will continue to fight for the taxpayers of Carson City for fair and equitable assessments.
As with all governmental agencies, the assessor's office has had to cut costs and reduce staff. We, as an office team, have been able to manage these cuts because of teamwork and the fact that I, as a working assessor, am part of that team. I not only manage the office, but I work hand-in-hand with every division of the office to complete the numerous deadlines as required by statute and Nevada administrative code. This must be accomplished without compromising the standards required by law and maintaining an efficient office. When re-elected, I will continue to support the assessors office through my direction and through my ability to assist each division within the office.
In these times of uncertainty, it is important for the taxpayers of Carson City to have an assessor that has the experience and the knowledge of the office to get the job done. My background in the real estate market, my education, as well as being a dual certified tax appraiser equips me with the ability to analyze and evaluate the ever-changing market. As assessor, I plan to continue to work hard to ensure that the appraisal practices are handled in an ethical, consistent and efficient manner. As always, I will continue to have an open door policy, welcoming taxpayers to come in anytime to discuss their evaluation.
Why should voters choose you over the other candidate?
I am the best qualified candidate on the ballot to do this job. I have the required state certifications, training and knowledge to continue to work competently for the people of Carson City.
My knowledge of the laws will allow me to continue to fight for the taxpayers before the Nevada Legislature for fair and equitable valuations. The citizens of Carson City deserve to have someone who has the experience fighting for their rights as taxpayers and has the education/experience to be a credible advocate for them.
During these economic times with cutbacks and loss of staff, it is important to maintain the status quo in an office which currently runs in a competent and efficient manner.
I have a passion for what I do. I enjoy serving the taxpayers of Carson City. I love my job and I love working with my staff. I thank you for your support.

Explain your background and how this qualifies you for the position you are seeking.
I have a diverse background of skills and experience that come together to create an excellent match for the position and challenges of assessor. I have worked with Carson City real estate professionals for 10 years. I'm an expert with computers and data management. I have provided management training and development for a wide range of positions. I respect accuracy and truth.
What are the most important issues that you would address if elected?
I will correctly include, not exclude, foreclosure sales in property valuation. Two different, intimately knowledgeable sources have advised me that personal property, aside from mobile/manufactured homes, has been imagined from the confines of the assessor's office for eight years now. This isn't just incorrect procedure, it is no procedure at all. As your assessor, I will apply high standards to procedure and fairness. I will work with people and make accommodations and adjustments whenever possible.
Why should voters choose you over other candidates?
Voters have been seeking me out with their concerns. Everyone from seniors and veterans to young families have told me about their experiences with the assessor. More than anything else, folks are disgruntled. Not so much by property tax rates, but instead they are disturbed at how they've been treated. I am friendly, attentive and honest. I will be your personal consultant.
