Explain your background and how this qualifies you for the position you are seeking.
I was elected lieutenant governor in 2006. I serve as the chairman of the Nevada Commission on Economic Development, where our efforts attracted new and exciting businesses to Nevada, creating and retaining almost 21,000 jobs and bringing $1.3 billion in new investment during my term in office. I'm also the chairman of the Nevada Commission on Tourism, where I have led successful efforts to expand non-gaming-related tourism to our state. I serve as the vice chairman of the Nevada Department of Transportation and the chairman of the Reno-Tahoe Winter Games Coalition, a group dedicated to returning the Winter Olympic Games to Northern Nevada. I was formerly Nevada State Treasurer from 1999-2006 and a Douglas County Planning Commissioner from 1991-1998.
On a national level, I am the current chairman of the Republican Lieutenant Governors Association and have been nominated to serve as a member of the United States Intergovernmental Policy Advisory Committee on Trade under the past two presidential administrations.
What are the most important issues that you would address if elected?
A strong educational system has always been a cornerstone of my public service and, in my opinion, of Nevada's future. One of the most effective means of ensuring continued prosperity is by investing in our children. As state treasurer, I worked to make sure that young Nevadans could attend college by creating the College Savings Plans, the Nevada Prepaid Tuition Program and building the Millennium Scholarship Program.
Working toward improving and diversifying our economy and strengthening our education system will not be possible if our public sector does not operate efficiently and wisely. I believe we need to continue cutting unnecessary expenditures through a careful analysis of the state's budget. In response to the state's current fiscal challenges, I have reduced my office staff by 50% and reduced office operating expenses by 23%.
Why should voters choose you over other candidate?
As lieutenant governor, I will continue to bring new and good jobs to our state and fight for education so that we may continue to live in a place we are proud to call home.

Explain your background and how this qualifies you for the position you are seeking?
I currently serve as a Reno City Councilwoman where I have been at the forefront of economic diversification and alternative energy initiatives. We have made great strides in creating jobs, protecting the environment and diversifying the economy. Now I want to bring action and integrity back to the Lieutenant Governor's Office.
My campaign has earned the endorsement of the Conference of Police and Sheriffs, the Police Officers Research Association, the Alliance for Retired Americans and I received a Primary endorsement from the National Rifle Association. I am honored to have received the Family Resource Center Award, the Community Service Award and the Scenic Hero Award for my work protecting our quality of life.
What are the most important issues that you would address if elected?
We need real leadership to create sustainable, green jobs and turn Nevada's economy around. With staggering unemployment and the highest foreclosure rate in the country, we need to diversify our economy and bring these jobs to Nevada - now! My top priority if elected will be the diversification of our economy through renewable energy projects. This will allow Nevada to stabilize its budget while protecting the environment.
Why should voters choose you over the other candidates?
The office of lieutenant governor is a natural extension of my public service. My experience reflects the mission of the office - diversifying and stabilizing the state's economy while promoting tourism. The incumbent has been truly invisible throughout his career in politics and he did nothing while our economy bottomed out. I, on the other hand, will bring my proven experience to the job and I will restore true action to the office of lieutenant governor.
