Irene Florence Sousa, 90, passed away Oct.14, 2010, in Carson City. Irene was born Oct. 17, 1919, in Oakland, Calif., to John and Alice Milne. She spent her early life in Oakland, graduating from St. Elizabeth's High School in Oakland.
Irene married Edmond "Beans" Sousa in 1939 in Reno. They moved to Castro Valley, Calif., where they lived for 40 years. While in Castro Valley, Irene worked at numerous part-time jobs but her main job was caring for her family and raising her five children.
Edmond passed away in 1989.
Irene moved to Carson City to be closer to her friends. She was member of St Teresa of Avila Catholic Community.
Irene is survived by three sons, Larry, Duane and Rick; and two daughters, Karen Allen and Judy Gialongo; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A Visitation will be Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25, 2010, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Community. Burial will follow at Walton's Carson Gardens cemetery.
