A Carson City native and graduate of Carson High School has been named as judge pro tempore for Carson City justice and municipal courts.
At the recommendation of justices of the peace John Tatro and Robey Willis, the Carson City Board of Supervisors last week approved Ryan Russell to serve on the bench when a sitting judge is out.
Russell was born and raised in Carson City and graduated from Carson High in 1996. He received a bachelor of science degree in business administration at the University of Nevada, Reno in 2000 and his juris doctorate from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, William S. Boyd School of Law in 2003.
Russell served as a judicial extern for district court judges Michael Griffin and Bill Maddox, and worked as a law clerk at the Attorney General's Office.
He joined his current firm, Allison, MacKenzie, Pavlakis, Wright & Fagan, in 2004, where he practices business law and litigation.
Russell, no relation to District Court Judge Todd Russell, is admitted to practice law in all courts in the state as well as in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and is an active member of the Nevada Justice Association, Washoe County Bar Association and State Bar of Nevada.
He has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada since 2005 and served as president of that board in 2009.
Russell joins three others as judges pro tempore for Carson City.
Nevada Revised Statutes allow the Board of Supervisors to establish a panel of qualified individuals to serve as judge pro tempore. The others are: Cheryl Lau, Eric Johnson and Bill Crowell.
