A public meeting Thursday in Dayton will discuss proposed changes to Highway 50 East in Mound House.

The Nevada Department of Transportation, in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration, is conducting the meeting to provide information and receive comments on proposed improvements from just east of Deer Run Road in Carson City to one mile east of State Route 341, the Virginia City turnoff, in Mound House

NDOT is proposing improvements that may include widening the existing roadway to accommodate a continuous raised median island with "T" intersections at certain locations, a new interchange to be located between Hillside and Affonso drives, construction of frontage roads within the Mound House area, improving existing local and connecting roads, and installing street lights.

The purpose of the project is to improve safety through Mound House and to accommodate increased traffic brought about by past development and planned future development.

The meeting is 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the Lyon County Utilities Building, 34 Lakes Blvd. Suite 103, Dayton.

There will be a brief project presentation at 5:30 p.m. followed by a short comment period.

Before and after the presentation at 5:30 p.m., the meeting will be conducted in an "open house" format to provide an opportunity to view the displays and individually discuss the project with project representatives.

Comments may be submitted for the public record in writing at the meeting or verbally to a court reporter who will be available throughout the meeting.

In addition to any comments received at the meeting, written or e-mail comments will be accepted through 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5 at info@dot.state.nv.us with a reference to this project in the subject line.

Comments should be mailed to Steve M. Cooke, P.E., chief of Environmental Services Division, Nevada Department of Transpor-tation, 1263 S. Stewart St., Carson City, NV 89712.

The Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Policies Act of 1970 will govern the acquisition of right-of-way that may be necessary for this project.
