The Carson Sertoma Club is conducting its annual membership drive and also seeking Partners and Friends of Sertoma to assist with their fundraising for local children with hearing and speech difficulties, cancer and diabetes.
Since the club's founding in 1964, Carson Sertoma has raised and donated more than $675,000 to local charitable organizations. For fiscal year 2010, the club donated more than $11,000, distributed to the Carson School District for hearing and speech services, the Northern Nevada Children's Cancer Foundation, Carson Advocates for Cancer Victims, Nevada Diabetes Association for Children and Adults, Carson City Senior Center, FISH, OARC, and the Carson City Guide Dog Club.
Funds are raised primarily with three major fundraisers: a family fun night of music in the spring, a summer golf tournament, and a fall Football Book program. For these events, members are asked to sell tickets, obtain raffle prizes and assist at the event. The only other time commitments required are the weekly luncheon meeting, attendance not mandatory.
After business, there is a short program by local community leaders as guest speakers, and socialization with other members. The meetings are every Wednesday at Q's Restaurant on Fairview Drive, starting at 12:10 p.m.
The Partner With Sertoma program allows a business to make one annual $300 donation which covers all fundraisers and eliminates frequent requests for raffle prizes throughout the year. By becoming a partner, a $40 gift certificate in your name or for your firm will be raffled at the fundraisers, and a Football Book with your firm's ad in it will be delivered to you.
Friend of Sertoma is for those who support our programs and community service, but cannot commit to membership or weekly meetings. For a minimum annual donation of $25, your name will be placed on our Friends of Sertoma banner.
Partners and Friends may attend meetings as our luncheon guest.
Checks should be made out to Carson Sertoma Club, and mailed to Carson Sertoma Club, P.O. Box 69, Carson City, NV 89702.
For any questions on the Sertoma Club, or any of the above programs, you may call Frank Taylor at 885-7579.
