Thursday will mark the first day of business for Car-son's newest retailer, Big Lots.
The 25,000-square-foot store also will stage a grand opening celebration on Nov. 5 at the Southgate Shopping Center location, 4215 S. Carson St.
The grand opening will feature a ribbon cutting ceremony at
9 a.m. as well as the company presenting Al Seeliger Elementary School with a $2,500 donation.
Store manager Rod Allred said about 50 people are employed at the location, which is one of 80 stores the Columbus, Ohio-based company is opening this year. It has more than 1,350 stores nationwide.
Big Lots sells items such as non-perishable food, toys and seasonal goods below normal retail prices. It also offers larger items such as furniture.
The store's hours will be
9 a.m.-9 p.m. seven days a week.
