An 11-year-old boy was revived Wednesday evening after slipping underwater during swimming lessons at the Carson City Aquatic Center about 6:30 p.m.
According to a Carson Sheriff's detective, the boy was taking swimming lessons with his younger brother. The instructor told officers she turned around briefly to attend to the younger brother, and when she turned back around the boy had slipped under the water. The instructor dived in and brought him up and began CPR.
Paramedics arrived and revived the boy, who has been transported to Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center and will then be transported to Renown in Reno.
Witnesses said the boy was under water for less than a minute.
According to Sheriff Kenny Furlong, the boy had a heartbeat and was struggling to breathe on his own in the hospital. Furlong said doctors were optimistic for a recovery.
