Stinson's haunted house to be open all weekend
Jason and Christina Stinson have received a call from Carson City letting them know that their backyard haunted house to raise canned food and clothing for the homeless does not need a special event permit.
After a story about the haunted house appeared in the Nevada Appeal, the city contacted the Stinsons to let them know that they would probably need a special event permit to host their Halloween bash.
A subsequent visit from city inspectors, however, resulted in the decision to allow the Stinsons to continue with their project, in which they had already invested $1,500.
Stinson's Haunted House will be from 7:30-10 p.m. Friday and Sunday but from 7:30-11 p.m. Saturday at 120 Broadleaf Lane on the corner of Broadway and Northgate, south of College Parkway.
The haunted house will be presented to accommodate age-specific visitors, so little ones who attend with their parents won't be too frightened, Jason Stinson said.

Halloween Safe House at Buckland Station Oct. 30
Join Nevada State Parks rangers and staff at Fort Churchill's Buckland Station for a "Safe House Halloween" with candy for the kids, followed by Halloween cartoons from 5-7:30 p.m. Oct. 30.
Some consider Buckland Station haunted with ghosts of the past. This evening, however, will be a fun-filled evening for the kids, the night before Halloween.
To get there from Silver Springs, drive about nine miles south on Highway 95A. After crossing the railroad tracks, Buckland Station is the large white, two-story building on the left.
All elementary school-aged children and their parents are invited. Children must be in costume to get in free. The event is sponsored and hosted by Fort Churchill State Park. There is no charge for the event.
