The trick-or-treat food drive for FISH is in full swing this month with 12 Carson City schools participating. Kids are out and about asking friends, family and local businesses to donate food through Nov. 1.
"We have two goals," said Gerie Stanko, FISH's development director. "First, to collect 100,000 cans, and, second, to encourage children to be good citizens by participating whole-heartedly in a fair and honest commitment."
"FISH is also offering as an incentive some great prizes, one of which includes a ride in an airplane to the top student who raises the most amount of cans," Stanko said. "Students and the public can track their progress at www.nvfish.com."
Last year FISH served 139,751 food bank meals, 20,626 dining room meals and 9,175 shelter meals.
Donations also can be dropped off food at the Food Bank on Long Street in Carson City or contact the parents of a neighborhood student to have the items picked up.
