Carson City Republican Central Committee to meet

Speakers for the Carson City Republican Central Committee meeting scheduled for Thursday are Congressman Dean Heller and Ben Kieckhefer, Candidate for Washoe Sen. Dist. 4.

The meeting will be from 6:30-8 p.m. at The Plaza Hotel, 801 S. Carson St., in the Sierra Room. Sign in at the door.

Silver State Model T Ford Club to meet

The Silver State Model T Ford Club will hold its monthly membership meeting at

7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, but Model T enthusiasts are encouraged to gather for dinner at 6 p.m. at Grandma Hattie's Restaurant, 2811 S. Carson St.

The Silver State Model T Ford Club is made up of Model T Ford enthusiasts from Western Nevada and Eastern California.

"Whether your car is running, is a project car or you're just interested in Model T's, we welcome your attendance at our monthly meetings," said Newman. "Our members help each other with restoration questions and get together for regular activities to learn more about their T's and to have fun with these century-old cars."

Elks to offer food at two weekend events

Authentic Cornish Pasties, hamburgers and hot dogs will be sold from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at the Carson City Elk's Lodge 515 N. Nevada St., at the corner of Nevada and Robinson streets.

On Sunday, Carson City Elks Lodge #2177 will be sell hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and sodas at the Nevada State Railroad Museum during the Nevada Day Steam Up from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Come out and ride the rails and enjoy lunch with the Carson City Elks.

Nevada Guard Retiree Appreciation Day set for Nov. 7

The longtime military service and dedication of recently retired Nevada Army Guard soldiers will be recognized Nov. 7 in Carson City during the annual Retiree Appreciation Day.

The event includes a retiree ceremony honoring the Nevada Army Guard's 2010 retirees at 2:30 p.m. The day's events begin at

9 a.m. and will include a Fallon Naval Air Station commissary lot sale, a retiree briefing, identification card and defense enrollment eligibility updates, and the Hall of Fame retiree awards ceremony.

The event will be at the Office of the Adjutant General, 2460 Fairview Dr.

Organizations set to provide information and answer questions include: Tricare, Job Connect, Veterans Upward Bound, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, and the Nevada Office of Veterans Services.
