130 YEARS AGO

A mistaken idea: Many good Republicans are considering the propriety of not voting the Republican ticket of Ormsby. Mr. Sharon is not considered a dead cock in the pit, and he is failing like a sick man every day. The men who a few months ago were ardent supporters openly express themselves against him.

100 YEARS AGO

Since gambling has shut down in Reno and several palaces of games are done it is safe to say at least 500 followers of gaming have left the riverside city. It was only time that the loss of wages was figured out. At the same time Reno became aware of the startup of a divorce colony. In one week 60 cases were filed for divorce. One attorney noted that the divorce business was probably worth at least $50,000 a month to Reno.

70 YEARS AGO

Draft data from WWI recalled. The state of Nevada furnished 5,535 soldiers to the world war and gave 2,393 more than its quota. Volunteers from Nevada totaled 2,324. The number drafted was 3,211. Ormsby County had 51 volunteers. Some say that 500 will be called in the first wave of registration in 1940.

50 YEARS AGO

A reportedly rare find, a solid black melanistic mule deer has been turned over to the state museum. The deer, shot by Russell E. Barker of Sparks near Wildhorse was reported to be a rarity of one in 100,000. The three point deer will be exhibited full size in the museum. Melanistic refers to the opposite of an albino.

20 YEARS AGO

In an annual release from Attorney General Brian McKay, he suggested tipping over outhouses from back to front as an attempt at Halloween humor. The suggestion was just one of the traditional safety advice issues from the A.G.'s office.

10 YEARS AGO

The Ormsby House closes at midnight tonight indefinitely for remodeling.
