Nevada State Museum

The Nevada State Museum 600 N. Carson St., Carson City celebrates the state's natural and cultural history, featuring the historic Carson City Mint. Open today 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Adults: $8, free for children 17 and under and museum members. 775-687-4810.

Pancake Breakfast at Governor's Mansion

Hosted by the Carson City Republican Women's Club from 7-9:30 a.m. Adults: $6, children, $3. Proceeds benefit Carson City High School and Dayton High School.

BAWN Pancake Breakfast

Hosted by Builders Assoc-iation of Western Nevada and BAWN Professional Women in Building. 7-10 a.m. at Red's Old 395 Grill, 1055 S. Carson St. Proceeds benefit the Women in Business Scholarship and the Helping Hands program. Cost is $6, children 5 years and younger are free.

Balloon Launch

The mass launch takes place at 7 a.m. in front of the old Gottschalks.

Nevada Day Classic Run/Walk

Races start from the corner of Telegraph and Curry streets. An 8K run begins at 8:15 a.m. and a two-mile walk and a two-mile fun run begin at 8:25 a.m. Registration is $35. Proceeds benefit Special Olympics.

Nevada Day Parade

A flyover signals the start of the Nevada Day Parade at 10 a.m. Watch for F-18 Hornets and an F-16 Falcon from Fallon Naval Air Station, plus a Lockheed C-130 Hercules transport plane from the Nevada Air Guard. The parade begins at William and Carson streets and ends at the intersection of Stewart and Carson streets. Marching bands, floats, equestrian groups and historical displays.

La Ka Le'l Be Pow Wow

The Carson Colony, 2900 S. Curry St., hosts the La Ka Le'l Be Pow Wow with dancing, food, crafts. Grand entrance at 1 p.m. today. Finals are Sunday.

Championship Band Awards

At 3 p.m. awards are given for best overall parade band and field marching band at the Carson City High School field. The winning school receives the Governor's Grand Champion Trophy.

Nevada Day Beard Contest

Immediately following the parade. In the amphitheater, just south of the Capitol steps in Carson City. Admission and contest entry are free, with winners awarded in the following categories: longest; fullest; reddest; whitest; blackest; best salt and pepper; best groomed; scruffiest; and most bearded community.

World Championship Single Jack Drilling Contest

Begins at 11:05 a.m. at the Carson Nugget west parking lot. Contestants compete for a $2,000 grand prize and have 10 minutes to drill holes in granite using pound hammers and bits of graduated steel.

Governor's Mansion Tour

Tours of the Governor's Mansion, 606 N. Mountain St. 2-4 p.m. Free.

Annual Chili Feed

Hosted by Nevada Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki from noon-2 p.m. at the Carson Nugget's Banquet Center. Free.

Nevada Day Pinewood Derby

Enter or come watch the Pinewood Derby races in the Carson Mall. Registration 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Races start at 1 p.m.

11th Annual Silver State Rumble

Amateur boxing hosted by Bruno's Boxing Club at 3 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. Event welcomes female boxers for the first time this year. There are 15 bouts. Adults: $10, seniors $8, children 6-12, $5; 5 and under free.

Nevada State Railroad Museum

Commemorating the last run of the McKeen Motor Car, No. 22 on the V&T line, Nevada Day, 1945. Purchase tickets at the Wabuska Depot at the Museum, 2180 S Carson St. The McKeen car runs from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Governor's Ball

At Piper's Opera House (12 North B St., Virginia City) from 7-11 p.m. Come dance to the Mt. Rose Trio Band. $18 per person (adults only), and includes appetizers, desserts and punch.
