Sharon Bratzler was the big winner in the Thunder Canyon Ladies match play tournament on Aug. 25.

Bratzler recorded a 15-5 win over Linda Morsani. Bianca Daykin recorded a 13.5-6.5 over Sandi Oglesby while Monica Pike topped Kathy Archer, and Shirley Westfall topped Linda Escher by the same score.

Lynn Greenman knocked off Karon Sullivan 12-8, while Joann Sheerin was a 11.5-8.5 winner as was Kathy Cockerill over Claudia Goodnight. Nancy Maloy edged Jeanne Brennan 11-9 and Virginia Bonar won by the same score over Barbara Plymell. Jane Beckett topped Theresa Beggs 10.5-9.5, and Jackie Cheney edged Joyce Powell by the same margin as did Ellen Ewing against Ursula Tracy.

Mary Anderson and Judy Fountain tied 10-10.

Fuller wins scratch title at Silver Oaks

Jim Fuller, Jim Silsby and Eric Moorman won their respective flights in the Silver oak Men's Club golf tournament over the weekend.

Fuller was tops in the scratch flight, while Silsby won the A flight and Moorman the B flight.

18 beat pro

at Thunder Canyon

Eighteen golfers beat head pro Dave La Fata at Thunder Canyon's Beat the Pro Day on Aug. 26.

La Fata shot a 79, while Steve Rydel (68), Bob Bittman (69), Chuck Griffin (71), Randy Plymell (71), Jeff Gussow (72), Dave Westfall (74), Tom Brennan (74), Keith Libert (75), Leland Sullivan (75), Jim Copple (76), Ron Ota (76), Dan Culbert (77), Gary Sheerin (77), Larry Goodnight (77), Mike Bennert (77), Tony Kane (77), Rich Wiebe (78) and Ron Babey (78) all scored lower.

Lockwood wins top

match-play flight

Isaac Lockwood beat Jim Bertholf on the 20th hole to win the top flight in the Carson Valley Men's Club Match Play Tournament.

Roger Hala beat Bob Mclean 2 and 1 in Flight 2; G.J. Paulsen edged Matthew Budjako 1-up in Flight 3; Brick Ludington edged Augustine Martinez 3 and 2 in Flight 4; and Jack Zippwald knocked off John Carey 5 and 3 in Flight 5.

Finan win flights

Joe Morrison carded a net 64 to win Flight A at the recent Carson Valley Men's Club stroke play tourney.

Gary Schreiber also shot 64 to win Flight B and Paul Finan carded a 68 to win Flight C.

BMX pro coming to Carson for clinic

Pro BMXer, Karl Clark will be conducting a BMX clinic from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Carson City BMX track, located at the Edmonds Sports Complex.

Clark, from Peoria, Ariz., will be covering gates, jumps, high/low's and other important racing skills.

Junior golf classes

at Carson Valley

Juniors ages 5 to 16 can learn the basics of golf including rules, etiquette, putting, chipping and full swing.

This class will be held on Saturday, Sept. 11 at the Carson Valley Golf Course. Class times are 12 to 1:15 p.m. for ages 5 to 6, 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. for ages 7 to 8 and 3 to 4:15 p.m. for ages 9 to 16.

Cost is $20 and includes club rentals, and golf balls. Refreshments will be provided. Pre-registration is required. Register at the Recreation Department or call 782-9828 for more information.

The Nevada Appeal is once again hosting a NFL pickem contest through its website. SIgnup to pick NFL games every week at nevadaappeal.profootball.upickem.net. Play against local and national competition. The grand prize is a trip to Hawaii.

at Thunder Canyon

Mike Judge scored a hole-in-one Tuesday at Thunder Canyon. Judge used a 5-iron to ace the 176-yard sixth hole.

Boykin wins low

gross at EV

Kim Boykin shot 79 to win low gross honors in the first flight at the Four Clubs and a Putter Tournament at Eagle Valley-East on Aug. 25.

Angie Scrivner and Beth Juri tied for low net honors in the first flight with 66s. Mary Kay Kaluza won low gross for the second flight with a 96. Gerri Murphy won low net with a 64. Shirley Shearer won low gross for the third flight with a 110 while Marge Belford won low net with a 72.
