The Men's Club at Thunder Canyon will host a Tee It Up for the Troops day Sept. 10.
Any active duty or retired military are invited for a day of fun and golf. The event begins at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start. The event costs $55 per person, which includes a continental breakfast and lunch.
After the tournament, tee times will be open at 2 p.m. to any active duty or retired military and their guests.
Tee It Up For The Troops is a charitable organization led by a core of dedicated veterans and volunteers. The mission is to honor, respect and remember the service of those who have given so freely to protect our great nation, a spokesperson said.
Tee It Up For The Troops, Inc. was created in 2005 to help support the fallen and disabled members of the Armed Forces, and their families. The National Day Of Golf was subsequently formed and has since produced numerous golf outings throughout the country.
Proceeds from the event will go to the Tee it Up for the Troops organization.

The team of Mike Maloy, Nancy Maloy, Ron Ota and Hazel Bowen was second at 128.
Tyler Daykin, Linda Ye, Alice Duan and Michelle Duan shot a 126 to win first place in the Sierra Flight. Steve Archer, Kathy Archer, Ellen Ewing and Joyce Powell were next with a 130.
Johnson, Silsby win
Silver Oak flights
Larry Johnson carded a net 68 and Jim Silsby had a net 70 to win their respective flights at Silver Oak.
Jim Sapien finished three strokes behind Johnson, while John Owens was third with a 73. Dennis Holt, Scott Scherer and Eric Moormann tied for second behind Silsby with a 74.
Moore records ace
at Empire Ranch
Jon Moore of Carson City aced the 144-yard par-3 8th on the Blue course using a 5-iron. The feat was accomplished on Sept. 6.
It was the third hole-in-one of his career. Jim Gustafson witnessed the shot.
First Tee tourney
set for Oct. 1
The First Tee of Northern Nevada is putting on a golf tournament Oct. 1 at 9 a.m. at Eagle Valley-East.
The format will be a four-person scramble with a minimum of two drives per player. Men will play from the white tees and women from the red tees. The cost is $85 per player
Tee sponsorships are available for $100.

Basketball, soccer hosts fundraiser
The girls basketball and soccer teams will be hosting a Drive One 4 Your School fundraiser at 9 a.m. at Oct. 2.
It will take place at the north parking lot at Carson High School. The Ford Motor Company and Dick Campagni Ford will donate $20 for every test drive.

host golf tourney
Carson High wrestling, girls golf and girls basketball teams will be hosting a golf tourney at Empire Ranch Golf Course. This event is Oct. 3 with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

Collins, Harn win
at Dayton Valley
Kitty Collins and Carrie Harn were the big winners at the Dayton Valley Ladies Club Championship played Aug. 30 and Sept. 1.
Collins won low gross with a 156, while Harn took low net with a 141.

• Brandon Goles and Marcus Zinke carded a 225 to win the Tahoe Flight at the Men's Member Guest event played Aug. 20-22. Kim Staley and Pete Bogdanavic won the Sierra Flight championship with a 220. Shawn Casey and Ken Napoletano were first in low gross with a 236.
• Dave Goles, Charlie Duke, Jim Doherty and Deb Fortin carded a 54.41 to win the Labor Day Blind Scramble event. Mike Fortin, Fred Saunders, Mike Newton and Suzanne Mohr were second at 54.67. Third went to Charlie Oliver, Vince McMahon, Frank Holzhauer and Cindy Walker with a 54.77.
Guy, Murray tie
for low gross
Joyce Guy and DeeDee Murray each carded a 90 to win low gross honors at the Eagle Valley Women's Golf Club Ace of Aces Tournament.
Lisa Rasmussen won low net honors with a 65.
Kim Boykin (79), Karin Pitcock (93) and Gerri Murphy (104) were the low gross winners in their respective flights. Joyce Boecher was 2nd flight low net with a 63, while Beth White was second low net in the 3rd flight with a 71.
Davis wins A Flight
at Carson Valley
Mike Davis shot a net 63 to win first place in the A Flight at the Red, White & Blue event on Sept. 5 at Carson Valley.
Bob McClean was second with a 65. Augustine Martinez won the B Flight with a 63, while Ed Umphries was second with a 65. Gerald Bing won the C Flight with a 58 and Paul Finan was second with a 67.
Olivas benefit set
for Sept. 18
The second annual SON's Shootout benefiting the Jimmy Olivas Athletic Foundation will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18 at Sage Hill Sporting Clays Course, 7370 Desert Way, Reno. The event will be a two-person team format sporting clays competition. Registration starts at noon.
The cost is $125 per shooter and includes ammunition (rental guns available), first, second and third place prizes, overall top score prize, and a barbecue dinner and cocktails. Tickets for dinner are $25. There also will be a raffle and auction.

Pyramid Lake hosts
fishing tourney
The 2nd annual Pyramid Lake Cutthroat Challenge is scheduled for Oct. 2 and 3 at Pyramid Lake.
A total of 25 cutthroat trout will be tagged with five fish being randomly tagged and worth $10,000 apiece.
Fishermen of all age and skill levels are invited to register for the event. You can register on line at www.pyramidlake.us or by phone at 1-888-225-2668. The cost is $65 to enter and the contest is limited to 500 fishermen.
Two tied for
Mosconi lead
Big Dogs and Cues Yer Daddy are tied for first place in the Mosconi Division of the Carson City Chapter of the American Poolplayers Association.
Both teams have 57 points, five points better than Jerry's Kids and Support Rackless Habits.
Casey Richards of Support Rackless Habits leads the 6-7 tier with 42 points, while Robert Matteson of Trouble Makers is on top in the 4-5 tier with 36 points. Anthony Cupp leads the 2-3 tier with 36 points.
All Work & No Play leads the Comstock Division with 89 points, 12 better than Rack Busters.
Bill Howard of Carson Lanes and Daniel McRae of the Over-the-Hill-Gang lead the 6-9 tier with six points apiece. Dean Skelley of Dean's Machine and Matteson of Rack Busters are tied for the lead in the 4-5 tier with six points apiece. James Panos of Rack Busters leads the 1-3 tier with 10 points.
