Thank you to troops race at Thunder Bowl
A "Thank you to Our Troops" race will be held Saturday at the Thunder Bowl Speedway in Mound House.
The Nevada National Guard and a chaplain will be on hand for opening ceremonies.
Gates open at 3 p.m. and racing starts at 6 p.m. The speedway is at 131 Industrial Parkway.
The event will be taped and sent to troops in Afghanistan.

Fall classes starting at arts center
Fall classes are about to start at the Brewery Arts Center. Most courses begin mid-September.
The BAC will offer a variety of classes for teens and tweens including 3D animation, pottery, beading, film making as well as painting and drawing. These classes are held after school or on the weekend.
Adults can take part in visual arts courses such as pottery, painting and jewelry making. The BAC also will host classes in the performing arts including dance and voice lessons. Also offered are classes in website creation, self-defense and holiday crafts.

Mile High Jazz Band presents concert
The Mile High Jazz Band and vocalist Sheryl Adams will be joined by several poets for a lively evening of big-band jazz music and poetry on the topic "Blown Away," 8-10 p.m. Tuesday at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson St. Admission is $5 general and free for age 18 and younger. Dance instruction from 6-7:15 p.m. is $5 additional.
"We will explore many aspects of the expression 'blown away' in the poems read and the musical selections played after each poem," said David Bugli, leader and pianist for the Mile High Jazz Band.

Interior design offered at the library
Carson City Library will present Doreen Mack, interior design specialist and owner of Lofty Expressions, at 6 p.m. Tuesday Patrons are encouraged to bring design challenges, including photos, for Mack to offer solutions.
Mack has been creating beautiful living spaces since 1980. She is the design instructor at Truckee Meadows Community College and has been honored with several industry awards. As an acclaimed interior designer, her work has been featured in several publications including "Victorian Homes" and "Visions." In addition, Mrs. Mack was the project designer for KRNV-Channel 4's television design segment, the "Home Show."

Introduction to Computers offered
at senior center
The Computer Center at the Carson City Senior Center is offering an Introduction to Computers Windows 7 from 1-3 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday starting Sept. 21 and ending Oct. 14.
The next class will start Oct. 19 and run through Nov. 10 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Wednesday.

Seeliger needs votes to win sunshade from ad campaign
Al Seeliger Elementary School is one of the top 10 nationwide finalists in the Sun Proof Your Community Contest sponsored by Neutrogena/ Choose Skin Health.
The entry is the only one from Nevada that made it to top 10 and the school is looking for votes. Seeliger has an opportunity to win a sun cover/sun shade for its playground from the Shade Foundation - valued at approximately $15,000.
Those with a Facebook account can vote on the Neutrogena/Choose Skin Health page on Facebook. One vote per person. Voting ends Sept. 23.

The Carson Valley Footprinters will hold its monthly dinner meeting Thursday at the Plaza Convention Center in Carson City.
