Nobody Asked Us, But ... Don't ever forget heroes, victims of 9/11

Yesterday, we remembered the tragedy of 9/11 in New York City, a field in Pennsylvania, and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., when Islamic extremists attacked our country. We remember those who died, and those who reacted heroically to save as many as they could. They still deserve your prayers.

Well, you've got to give it to Nevada gubernatorial candidate Gino DiSimone for thinking outside the box and coming up with a doozy of an idea - "pay to speed" $25 to go 90 mph on Nevada roads. That money would then be used to ease the state's budget crisis. We can go him one further; give points for everything you kill while speeding, i.e., 10 for a cow; 5 for a deer; 100 for a person (including yourself), and so on. Points would be added up at the end of the year, and you'd be fined $100 a point. Now that's a way to erase the deficit - all the way to the bank (at 90 mph). Wonder what we would get for school zones?

Carolyn has two new "best friends." She's rented out her house to Gail and Mike - "perfect angels" - who are helping her repaint the house and put the yard in shape. It's looking so good, she's ecstatic. Hopefully, she won't move in with them.

From Joann Gardner and the Internet: "When asked by a young patrol officer, 'Do you know you were speeding?' the 83-year-old woman gave the young officer a smile and stated, 'Yes, Officer, but I had to get there before I forgot where I was going.' The deputy put his ticket book away and bid her a good day." Makes perfect sense to us.

Happy birthdays to Cristi Schmid and Kim Johnston Brown; and a get well soon to Suzie, who's being operated on to get rid of her pain in the neck (nooooo, not her husband and family).

Do you ever notice how people sometimes use the same phrase over and over again? In two separate interviews, Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.), and Vice President Joe Biden kept saying "the fact of the matter is..." or "the truth of the matter is..." Cut it out - we get tired of the repetition and would think you could come up with something more creative. Thank you.

"The Today Show" showed their anchors repeating the "first" jobs they ever had. Carolyn babysat and worked as slave labor at her parent's restaurant; Terry Ward pulled weeds and cleaned out a dry cleaning establishment; and M set pins in a bowling alley for two years. In the "old days," they were set by hand. It paid 7 cents a line ... whoopee.

Mary Geisler sent us some interesting facts off the Internet: Where was the Declaration of Independence signed? Answer: At the bottom. What is a fibula? Answer: A little lie.
