Tim Ply, a senior on the Dayton High baseball team, has been invited to participate in the Blue-Gray baseball showcase at Tempe Diablo Stadium next weekend.
The two-day showcase is one of the biggest in the West, and is certain to attract plenty of college coaches and scouts from all the Major League baseball teams. Each player will participate in drills on Saturday and then play two games on Sunday.
To be included in the event, a player must be nominated by a scout or a high school coach.
Ply has been pounding the pavement the last couple of days in an effort to find sponsors for his trip. If you are interested in lending a hand, call Linda Ply at 682-0300 as soon as possible.

The biggest news out of Carson High these days just may be the girls' golf squad.
Led by Elayna Shine and Whitney Nash, the Senators have won the first two Sierra League tournaments, edging Bishop Manogue both times by 15 and six shots, respectively.
Maggie Jones and Elise Levy give the Miners a formidable 1-2 punch, but Manogue lacks the depth. The Miners' third player barely broke 100 on Tuesday at Empire Ranch, which is probably the easiest course on the schedule.
Lindsay Burroughs gives the Senators a solid No. 3 player, and Megan Justice and Ali Vondrak continue to improve. Carson had three players break 90 at Empire Ranch, and a fourth, Justice, shot 91.

Next week is a huge one for the Carson High volleyball team.
After starting the season against Reno and Reed, the Senators play the two toughest 4A volleyball teams in Northern Nevada, Douglas and Damonte Ranch. Carson would love to get out of the week with a split, but there is no doubt that the Senators will be the underdog in both games.
Fortunately, both games will be at Morse Burley Gym, so I would expect big crowds.

If the Giants don't make the playoffs, fans won't be able to levy any criticism on general manager Brian Sabean. The man has been a genius, making a lot of great moves.
He pulled the trigger first during the season by picking up Pat Burrell, who is hitting .269 with 15 homers and 40 RBI. He also went out and got Jose Guillen, who was hitting .293 entering the weekend. Sabean also plucked Cody Ross off the waiver wire to help with depth in the outfield. And last but not least, he picked up middle relievers Javier Lopez and Ramon Ramirez. Lopez is 2-0 with a 2.20 ERA, while Ramirez has an 0.96 ERA in 18 innings of work. Also, reserve infielder Mike Fontenot is hitting .303 in 12 games.
Maybe the biggest move in season was dealing Benjie Molina away and elevating Buster Posey to a starting role. Posey has carried the team on his back at times with 12 homers and 57 RBIs and a .325 average.
The biggest off-season move was getting Aubrey Huff, who is hitting .291 with 24 homers and 81 RBI. He should be an MVP candidate.
