Rangers 4, Yankees 1

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Cliff Lee allowed two hits while pitching into the ninth inning in his return from a back injury and Julio Borbon beat out a drag bunt for a go-ahead single, carrying the Texas Rangers to a 4-1 victory over the New York Yankees and a sweep of the series between division leaders.

Lee (11-8) didn't give up a hit for 5 1-3 innings, facing the minimum in that stretch. Both hits and the lone run came in the sixth inning.

Neftali Perez struck out the next three batters for his 36th save in 39 chances, completing the first three-game sweep of the Yankees this year.

New York lost for the sixth time in seven games but maintained a half-game lead in the AL East because second-place Tampa Bay lost 5-4 to Toronto.

Yankees starter Dustin Moseley (4-3) lasted 6 2-3, getting tagged for four runs on five hits. He walked two and struck out one.

Blue Jays 5, Rays 4

TORONTO (AP) - Adam Lind hit a two-run homer off Rafael Soriano in the ninth inning, giving the Blue Jays a victory.

With Toronto trailing 4-3, Aaron Hill led off the ninth with a single off Soriano (2-2), who had converted his previous 19 save chances since July 20. After falling behind 0-2, in the count, Lind lined his 22nd home run of the season to right field.

B.J. Upton's ninth-inning sacrifice fly off Kevin Gregg (2-5) had put Tampa Bay ahead following Brad Hawpe's one-out walk and Desmond Jennings' hit-and-run single.

Twins 6, Indians 2

CLEVELAND (AP) - Kevin Slowey earned his first win in nearly a month and the Twins won their 4,000th game since the franchise moved to Minnesota.

Slowey (12-6) gave up two runs over five innings in his second start since being sidelined with a strained right triceps.

The original Washington franchise moved to Minnesota after the 1960 season and became the Twins. The AL Central leaders open a three-game series in Chicago against the second-place White Sox on Tuesday.

Minnesota took a 5-0 lead in the first inning on a walk, stolen base, four singles, error, wild pitch and sacrifice fly against Mitch Talbot (9-12) and emergency reliever Justin Masterson.

Talbot left after only 14 pitches with shoulder inflammation.

Angels 3, Mariners 0

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Dan Haren held Seattle to three singles over seven innings, Mike Napoli homered and the Angels scored another run on a catcher's interference call with the bases loaded to complete a sweep of Seattle.

The Angels, who are in third place in the AL West after winning three straight division titles, won the season series 14-5.

Haren (3-4) struck out six, walked three and did not allow a hit after Russell Branyan's leadoff single in the fourth.

Jason Vargas (9-10) lost his fifth straight start, allowing two runs - one earned - and seven hits over seven innings with four strikeouts.

White Sox 12, Royals 6

CHICAGO (AP) - Paul Konerko had a pair of two-run homers and an RBI single and pinch-hitter Andruw Jones hit grand slam in a six-run sixth inning, leading the White Sox over the Royals.

Kansas City led 6-0 after a half inning, but Konerko lined a run-scoring single to left to give Chicago its first lead of the game in the sixth.

, but Chicago chipped away with two runs apiece in the first, third and fourth innings.

Reliever Sergio Santos (2-0) pitched 1 1-3 scoreless innings for the win, striking out three. Philip Humber (1-1) tossed 2 1-3 innings and gave up four runs and five hits.

Red Sox 5, Athletics 3

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Pinch-hitter Ryan Kalish hit a go-ahead two-run single in the sixth, J.D. Drew had a two-run double one batter earlier and Boston Red Sox rallied for a victory.

Josh Beckett (5-4) settled down after a rocky start as Boston avoided its first sweep by the A's since May 23-25, 2008.

Dallas Braden (9-12), still trying to reach double digits in wins for the first time in his career, lost his third straight start. All the damage came in that tough sixth inning. The left-hander also struggled with location, walking four after issuing two or fewer walks in each of his previous 20 starts.

Oakland's Coco Crisp stole six bases in the series against his former team, including his career-high 29th and 30th on Sunday.

Tigers 6, Orioles 2

DETROIT (AP) - Miguel Cabrera hit a bases-loaded double in a five-run eighth inning that backed Justin Verlander's 16th win, and the Detroit Tigers got back to .500.

With the Orioles ahead 2-1, Will Rhymes led off the eighth with a single against Mike Gonzalez (0-3) and took third on Ryan Raburn's double. Orioles manager Buck Showalter brought in David Hernandez, who got ahead 1-2 in the count to pinch-hitter Austin Jackson before loading the bases with a walk. Cabrera then lined a three-run double into the left-center field gap.

Verlander (16-8) struck out 11. He allowed both runs and five hits in eight innings, and walked one. Phil Coke finished with a hitless ninth.
