Eagle Valley Middle School teacher terminated

A middle school shop teacher who allegedly threatened school district employees was fired Tuesday at the Carson City School Board meeting.

"The school board voted to terminate his employment with the school district," said Superintendent Richard Stokes. "That recommendation came from me, based on a hearing officer's decision."

Wayne Phillip Haack, an Eagle Valley Middle School teacher, was arrested in November on suspicion of gross misdemeanor threats to a school employee.

According to the arrest report, Haack was angry after a meeting about a "pay issue" on Nov. 5.

"As Wayne walked towards the front door of the school district office, he pulled out a knife and stated to a receptionist, 'For the money I won't make, I could hire a hit man,'" Deputy Scott Davis wrote in the arrest report.

The report stated that Haack and a union representative met with Associate Superintendent Jose Delfin.

When Delfin allegedly asked Haack if he had made the statement, Haack allegedly stated he did, and showed Delfin a box-cutter-type knife.

Police were called and Haack was arrested at the school.

Haack will receive the remainder of his salary and benefits throughout the rest of the school year.
