RENO, Nev (AP) - Investigators say illegal fireworks started a brush fire that burned more than 80 acres and put a scare into a neighborhood in southeast Reno.
No injuries were reported or structures damaged by the fire that broke out about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday on Rattlesnake Mountain near Alexander Lake Road and South McCarran Boulevard.
About 60 firefighters battled the blaze and had it fully contained about 8 a.m. Wednesday. No homes were immediately threatened but a number of residents voluntarily evacuated.
Reno city spokeswoman Michele Anderson says they don't have any suspects but they have confirmed "the cause is fireworks." She says fire investigators referred to them as typical "consumer fireworks" but provided no other details.
