Casino company MGM Resorts hires Sanders as COO

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Casino company MGM Resorts International has appointed Corey Sanders as chief operating officer, filling a post that had gone empty since Jim Murren became CEO nearly two years ago.

Murren said in a memo to employees that Sanders was approved by the company's board on Wednesday.

Murren says Sanders has proven creative, effective and savvy during 14 months as operating chief for the company's core and regional properties. Sanders has been with MGM Resorts more than 16 years.

Murren ascended to CEO in November 2008 after Terry Lanni retired.

The Las Vegas-based company also says Gamal Aziz, president of subsidiary MGM Hospitality, will no longer serve a dual role as president of the MGM Grand hotel-casino. MGM Resorts shuffled executives at six properties as a result.
