Carson City Natives & Newcomers will meet at 11:30 a.m. today at the Carson Nugget.

The group welcomes people from Carson City and surrounding areas to join in the fun and help in charity events.

Douglas hosting used book sale Sept. 25

The Douglas County Public Library is hosting a used book sale in the lobby of the Minden branch during regular library hours.

DVDs, VHS tapes, audio books and paperback books will be on sale from Sept. 25 through Oct. 2. Paperbacks will be 50 cents or $1 each; other items will be priced as marked.

Concealed weapon permit forum

The Nevada Sheriffs' and Chiefs' Association will be hosting the annual Nevada carry concealed weapon permit holders forum from 9 a.m. - noon on Sept. 30 in the Nevada Legislative Building, room 1214.

The meeting also will be broadcast on the Legislature's website at www.leg.state.nv.us.

Murder mystery fundraiser planned

The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada, 813 N. Carson St., will present "Murder on the Princess Royal."

This murder mystery dinner will include a delicious meal and a murder that the audience is encouraged to solve. There will be silent and live auction items and many surprises.

Participants can have their cruise ship picture taken with Captain (and Mayor) Bob Crowell, and enjoy all the luxuries of sailing on a 1920s-era cruise ship.

The cruise sets sail Oct. 2 with cocktails starting at 5 p.m. Admission is $35 per person, $40 for seating with the captain, and $250 for a table of eight.

Participants are welcome to show up in 1920s apparel and help solve the who-done-it.
