PREP ROUNDUP: Dayton spikers sweep Sparks

The Dayton varsity volleyball team swept Sparks at home on Friday.

Dayton won, 25-10, 25-11 and 25-15.

The team played without captain Kathie Arias who was on a recruiting visit to the University of Nevada for track.

Despite a slow start, the Dust Devils found their rhythm and rolled.

The game was close until Madison Foley reeled off the last 11 points using her jump serve to close it out.

Foley had 11 kills and an ace in the match. Mackenzie Kielty had 21 assists, four digs and a kill. Amanda Arana contributed with eight digs. Michaela Hoff added four kills; Erin Edison had six assists and two blocks; Jamie Darragh had eight kills, two aces and two blocks.

Coach Monica Halverson praised the setting of Kielty.

"It truly was a total team effort," Halverson said. She said the bench was solid when called upon.

Dayton, 19-2 overall and 3-0 in league, travels to Lowry for a 1 p.m. match today.

DAYTON TEAMS RUN WELL AT NORTH TAHOE

The Dayton High cross country teams fared well at the North Tahoe meet on Friday. The meet saw 33 schools compete. The girls race had 155 runners and the boys race had 230 runners.

Dayton's top two girls finished in a dead heat. The timers gave the nod to Shanleigh Brethauer over freshman Rhael Ransom. Both finished with a time of 26:50, finishing 42nd and 43rd. Senior Brenda Cid finished 70th with a time of 28:19. Freshman Kaia Galloway ran her first race this year clocking a 29:14 and freshman Isabella Anderson finished in 30:03.

The boys results were incomplete as of Friday night. Leading the Dust Devils was junior Ethan Galloway who finished with a time of 21:45. He finished 42nd.

Following him were senior Brian Hagedorn (22:38), sophomore Skyler Rose (22:44) and freshman Aaron Elissa (23:13).

YERINGTON SPIKERS ROLL

Yerington easily disposed of Battle Mountain 25-11, 25-12 and 25-22 in a girls volleyball match Friday afternoon.

Makena Lommori led Yerington with nine kills, nine digs, six aces and 14 assists. Brooke Aiazzi helped out with seven digs and two aces. Maddie Hull-Taylor contributed six kills and two aces. Alex Roberts led the team in blocks with two.
