A Carson ghost: Ed Townsend gives an account of a strange night in Carson just after the State Prison break. He was sitting in a room at the Arlington House with Fred Maeder and old Vinson. Then the news was received that Edwin Forrest was dead ... followed by a measured tread that was heard in the next room. It was so monotonous that the trio looked over the transom and found the room entry. This tramping was kept up all night. It might have been the result of numerous potions at Vic Muller's (drug store) that caused the men to think a ghost was present.
120 YEARS AGO
An intelligent dog: James Wiggins of Empire, claims to have one of the smartest dogs in the State. The animal is induced to sit in a common straight-backed chair and throw his head slightly back to keep the smoke out of his eyes. He drinks beer, stands on his head, picks up billiard balls and steals ducks from other sportsmen.

"Preparedness" is the theme of 1940 celebration of Admission Day (Nevada Day): In a world which is currently defense-conscious, the battle-born state of Nevada will be fully in character when she celebrates her 76th birthday.

Sixty students gather for prayer in front of Carson High School for "See You at the Pole" an event first enacted 11 years ago by the Supreme Court allowing for organized student prayer.
