Reno Chamber endorses Livermore, Sandoval, Miller

The Reno-Sparks Chamber of Commerce has endorsed a slate of legislative candidates including three with constituents in Carson City. All are Republicans.

Outgoing Carson Supervisor Pete Livermore got the nod in Assembly District 40, which is 90 percent in the Capital district. His opponent is Robin Williamson, a Democrat and also a termed-out member of the board of supervisors.

Ben Kieckhefer, whose opponent is Independent American candidate Ike Yochum, was endorsed for the Senate District 4 seat vacated by Randolph Townsend. The district includes part of northern Carson City.

Randy Kirner won the group's endorsement in Assembly District 26, which includes Incline Village and other communities at north shore.

The chamber also endorsed Republican Brian Sandoval for governor over Democrat Rory Reid, describing the former judge as the candidate with the leadership skills to "put aside partisanship and work with the Legislature on a long-term solution to our state's challenges."

"That solution must include long-term spending reforms, changes to our public employee retirement, benefit and collective bargaining laws and a tax and regulatory policy that is business friendly, stable and predictable," chamber officials wrote.

In addition, the chamber endorsed incumbent Republican Brian Krolicki in the lieutenant governor's race.

But his opponent, Democrat Jessica Sferrazza, won the endorsement of two major law enforcement organizations, the Southern Nevada Conference of Police and Sheriff's and the Police Officers Research Association of Nevada. Sferrazza is a Reno city councilwoman.

The chamber endorsed Jason Geddes, also a Republican, to return to the Nevada Board of Regents.

Finally, the chamber endorsed Ross Miller for a second term as secretary of state - the only Democrat the group has backed in endorsements issued during the past couple of weeks.
