(AP) - Nevada has received more than $467,000 from the federal Administration for Children and Families as an incentive award for finding adoptive homes for difficult to place foster children.
State Administrator Dianne Comeaux (KOH-moh) says children considered difficult to place include older children; multiple siblings; those with a history of abuse or neglect; or those with ongoing special needs.
The incentive payment covers the 2009 federal fiscal, during which Nevada placed 479 foster children in adoptive homes. There are currently 1,310 foster children in Nevada.
Comeaux says the incentive payments will used to enhance adoption programs around the state, with 70 percent of funds going to Clark County, 20 percent to Washoe County, and 10 percent to rural areas.
