STANFORD - Carson High's boys and girls cross country teams fared well at Saturday's Stanford Invitational at the Stanford Golf Course.
The girls squad finished eighth and the boys 12th in the Division I race.
"We had a great meet," Carson coach Pete Sinnott said. "The boys did pretty good. They improved a lot from their last meet at Nevada Union. They took two minutes off their time from last year. All the boys finished within 70 seconds of each other.
"The girls' team took seven minutes off their time, and that's a minute per girl. The first four girls ran really well."
Junior April Shonnard finished 10th and freshman Alex Drozdoff 12th, clocking a 19:24 and 19:35 respectively over the 3.1-mile course. It's the first time two CHS runners have broken 20 minutes in the same race.
Amanda Gordon (20:23), Cindy Juchtzer (21:33), Erika Sosa (21:44) and Ashley Salcedo (21:57) also competed.
For the boys, Logan Philippi was 39th in 16:52. Nick Greene (17:18) and Taylor Bradshaw (17:23) ran well, according to Sinnott. Evan Richard was timed in 17:31 and Brandon Buonacorsi clocked a 17:40. Brent Moyle, who led the race for the first 600 meters, ran a 17:56.

DAYTON RALLY FALLS SHORT
WINNEMUCCA - Lowry jumped out to a 4-0 first-half lead, but had to hold off furious rally by Dayton to grab a 4-3 win Saturday afternoon.
Adan Gomez scored twice for Dayton, including the Dust Devils' final goal with six minutes left in the match. Leo Rodriguez had Dayton's other goal.
"We made a valiant comeback," Dayton coach Karl Watts said. "We turned the momentum around. We realized we could play with them."
LOWRY TOPS DAYTON
WINNEMUCCA - Lowry scored a goal in each half to knock off Dayton 2-1.
Susie Melgarejo scored the Dust Devils' only goal, that coming in the 74th minute. The score cut Lowry's lead to 2-1.
Serena Pistilli, a center midfielder, and stopper Savannah Parsons were praised for their defensive play.
Dayton visits Fernley Tuesday at 3 p.m.
DOUGLAS TIES GALENA
A week ago, the Douglas boys' soccer team was desperately trying to break through with its first win of the year.
Just seven days later, the Tigers are coming off an unbeaten week - not to mention their first two shutouts since last season.
Douglas tied league-leading Galena 0-0 Friday afternoon to put the wraps on a solid week that could signify a turning point in the season.
"We played with a lot of courage today," Douglas coach Milko Vasquez said. "Our boys stepped up to the challenge.
"Galena is very athletic and their skill level is better than ours. But the tie definitely goes to the team as a whole. They all worked their tails off. They played with a lot of poise."
Francisco Sanchez posted his second consecutive shutout (Douglas beat Manogue 2-0 earlier in the week).
CARSON JV BOYS WIN
The Senators scored all four of their goals in the first half, and then coasted to a 4-0 win over Manogue on Saturday.
Billy Goulardt scored twice in the first half, tallying in the 26th and 32nd minute, respectively. Danny Zuber and Porfirio Jauregui scored the other Carson goals. Jorge Rodriguez had two assists.
Danny Alonso, Adam Shoaf, Arnaldo Diaz, Bryan Dones and Rodriguez all played well defensively. Gustavo Vilagrana had to face just one shot on goal.
Carson is now 6-0-1.

CARSON JVs TRIUMPH
The Senators overcame a 20-6 halftime deficit to knock off Bishop Manogue 33-26 Friday night at Carson.
Quarterback Matt Nolan and running back-receiver Mike Bass had big games for Carson.
Nolan completed nine of 11 passes for 163 yards and a score. He also ran for 68 yards. Bass rushed for 85 yards, including an 18-yard TD run, and he also had 111 receiving yards.
Sage Smith had a 27-yard interception return for a score, helping the Senators' comeback.
