A heat wave is making early fall feel more like mid-summer for the western United States.
Temperatures in the Carson City region were expected to hit 93 on Monday with another repeat today, according to the National Weather Service. Usually, the mercury doesn't rise above 80 this time of year.
But as a result of a high pressure system lingering over the western United States, the unseasonable weather is expected to last most of the week with a slight chance of rain and thunderstorms on Friday.
Temperatures are expected to drop back to normal by Sunday.
Reno hit a record high on this day last year when the temperature hit 93.
The region also has recorded no precipitation all month, according to the National Weather Service. Normally, a little less than a half inch falls in September.
Temperatures also soared to more than 100 in Las Vegas on Monday, about 10 degrees warmer than normal.
