Garden center offers scavenger hunt

For anyone looking for a grown-up type of Easter egg hunt, Greenhouse Garden Center is having its 37th annual Scavenger Hunt at 11 a.m. April 24.

Follow the clues around the nursery and answer all of the clues. Those who correctly answer all the clues are eligible to enter the Scavenger Drawing and get a chance to win a great prize. Find the golden egg and win a pre-selected tree.

Champagne & Shoes is a ladies' night out

Soroptimists International of Carson City presents Champagne & Shoes - A Ladies' Night Out from 6-8 p.m. Friday in the Nevada Room of the Governor's Mansion on Mountain Street.

Guests may compete for prizes and vote for the best casual shoes, best boots, best elegant shoes and best gaga outrageous shoes in the "Razzle Dazzle 'Em Shoe Contest." There will be a prize for best ensemble.

Open enrollment set for Catholic school

St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School's open enrollment for kindergarten through eighth grades, as well as preschool and pre-kindergarten, begins April 18.

Orchard, berry farm workshop offered

Nevada farmers agree that tree fruit and berries are lucrative markets, but the enterprise comes with risks in both growing and marketing these specialty crops.

Western Nevada College Specialty Crop Institute presents a daylong workshop, Commercial Orchard and Berry Production for the Small Farm, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 6 at Smith Valley High School, 20 Day Lane. Cost is $35 for those registered by April 28, or $45 afterward. Lunch is included; seating is limited.

Participants will learn about commercial orchard and berry production, including marketing and production risks. Industry experts will discuss best varieties to grow in Northern Nevada, site selection, planting, pruning, drip irrigation and more. Local farmers will share their successes and challenges in production and sales.

After spring cleaning, donate clothes, tools

The Workforce Program, which assists people in obtaining employment, needs specific items to be donated to the Workforce Closet. The goal is to assist clients to be ready for work by supplying them with work clothes and other items.

Needed donations for men and women include: jeans, nice T-shirts, work shirts, scrubs, work boots, hand tools, tool belts/bags, small tool boxes, suits, medical supplies for CNAs/ MAs, masonry tools, tile setter tools, carpentry tools, and empty storage bins with lids.

The program will pick up bagged items at your home, or you can drop them off from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 22 at Carson City Human Services, 900 E. Long St. Please have items clean and on hangers if at all possible.
