Senator Square: Orientation for eighth-graders to be held Monday

This week's senior spotlight is on Elizabeth Swezey. She has a grade-point average of 4.0 (weighted grade-point average 4.65).

Elizabeth is planning on going to school in either California or Florida to get her undergraduate in chemistry and go on to study medicine, preferably emergency medicine.

Outside of school, Elizabeth is very involved in her church. She mentors middle school students at Uprising Youth Ministries.

Also, she leads the Uprising Youth Drama Team and runs the team at the Uprising coffee bar.

This is her second year working at Capital Christian Day Care Center. She is a member of National Honor Society, Health Occupations Students of America and student council.

The Nevada Congres-sional delegation is sponsoring Academy Information Day for high school students and parents to learn about our nation's service academies.

The event will be held at the University of Nevada, Reno's Lawlor Event Center (Silver and Blue Room)

9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

The CHS Computer Literacy challenge test is for eighth-grade students who want to test out of Computer Literacy and go straight into a more advanced computer applications class at the high school.

It will be given 3-5 p.m. Wednesday in the High Tech Center, room 313. The test begins right at 3, so get there by 2:55. The test will be taken on Office 2007 software. Students unfamiliar with Office 2007 are highly encouraged to attend the review day. The test is comprised of three parts: Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

The review day will be 2:40-4 p.m. Tuesday in the high tech center, room 313. CHS teachers will do a guided review of the skill sets covered in each part of the test.

Feel free to use them and hand them out to interested students or parents.

Eighth-grade orientation will be at the high school at

6 p.m. Monday in the big gym. We encourage parents and students to be a part of this exciting night.
