Sprinters, jumpers lead Carson

It was a good day for the Carson High sprinters and jumpers on Tuesday.

The athletes lead Carson to a sweep over Bishop Manogue and Wooster in a three-team track meet on Tuesday at Manogue.

Carson won the boys meet with 95.667 points, Manogue was second (47.5) and Wooster was third (46.833).

On the girls side, Carson won 103 to 51 for Wooster. Manogue was third with 31 points.

"It was a good meet," said coach Robert Maw. "It was especially good for almost all of our sprinters who PR'd."

Clint Page (11.3) and Connor Beattie (11.7) went 1-2 in the 100, both running personal records.

In the 200 it was a sweep for the Senators with Trey Jensen winning (23.4), Page in second (23.7) and Beattie in third (24.2). All three times were PRs.

Taylor Bradshaw won the 400 in 52 seconds, with Andrew Cowan taking second in a PR of 55.9.

Nick Green finished third in the 1600m (5:14.2) and second in the 3200 (11:41.8).

Gunnar Harper easily won the 110m hurdles (17.1) more than a second quicker than Shane McNulty from Wooster and Carson's Stefan Sobkiewicz (18.2). It was a PR for both Carson athletes.

Joey Thurman was third in the 300m hurdles at 46.2 seconds, a PR.

Carson relay teams won the 4x100m, 4x200m and 4x400m events.

Carson was third in the 4x800m.

Gabe Pongasi showed why he is one of the best jumpers in Northern Nevada sweeping the triple and long jumps. He won both events by about 3 feet.

Pongasi's leap of 20 feet was a PR in the long jump. Sobkiewicz was second (17'8").

He jumped 40'8" in the triple jump, beating teammate Connor Fallon, (37'6") who PR'd.

Kyle Sharp, Dexter Cummings and Wooster's Moises Real tied for first in the high jump clearing 5-feet.

AJ Winder won the pole vault clearing 11'3".

Patrick Cooke took second in the shot put at 37'7".

Blake McCoy took second in the discus at 121'8" with teammate Levi Carter third 114'2".

For the girls, Josilyn Daggs continued to be impressive winning the 100m in 12.9, 8-tenths faster than the next competitor.

Daggs also won the 100m hurdles in 16.3.

Shannon Flaherty PR'd in the 200m finishing third in 29.2.

Kaitlyn Holmes won the 400m in 1:05.7, 2.1 second faster than second place.

Mallory Wilson won the 800 in 2:39.7.

Alex Drozdoff won the 1600m in 5:47. Amanda Gordon was third (6:01). Drozdoff won the 3200 in 12:51. Erika Sosa was second at 13:23.7.

The Senators girls ran away with a sweep of the relays.

In the triple jump, Elena Thurman won the event jumping 31'1". It was Thurman's first time competing in the event.

Maw said he thinks Thurman can jump 34 feet by the end of the year.

Kenzie Tillitt finished second in the long jump (14'10.5") and the triple jump (29'9"). Sabrina Ranato was third in the long jump (13'10.5"). Mikayla Story was third in the triple jump (29'4").

Haley Ridgely was third in the high jump clearing 4'4".

Maddi Saarem won the pole vault clearing 10.9".

The Senators swept the shot put with Makayla Ragnone winning (30' 2.5"), Ali Fleming was second (29'7.5") and Courtney Hack was third (29'1").

Caitlin Sinclair was second in the discus at 91'7" and Erika Valenzula was third at 89'9".

Carson is competing at the Big George meet Friday, before hosting regional trials on May 7.
