49ers' Harbaugh to speak at Pack event
RENO (AP) - San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh has agreed to give the keynote speech at a fundraiser in July for the athletic program at the University of Nevada, Reno.
The former Stanford coach named to the 49ers top job in January will speak at the 43rd annual Governor's Dinner in Carson City on July 8.
Tickets to the event at the Governor's Mansion are $300.
Harbaugh was the Chicago Bears first-round draft pick in 1987 and quarterbacked five different NFL teams over 15 seasons. He played his college ball at Michigan. His brother, John, is the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens.
Georgia gives Mark Fox raise, extension
ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia coach Mark Fox received a $400,000 raise and a one-year contract extension on Thursday as a reward for taking the Bulldogs back to the NCAA tournament.
It was well-timed reassurance for Fox after his team's two top players, Trey Thompkins and Travis Leslie, have ended their college careers early to enter the NBA draft.
Fox, in only his second season, took the Bulldogs to their first NCAA tournament appearance since 2008. Georgia finished 21-12.
Georgia's athletic board announced Fox will receive a raise from $1.3 million to $1.7 million, and his contract has been extended through the 2016 season.
"I think really for us Georgia has committed to build a basketball program," Fox said. "It's evident now with the support we've had the previous two years. With the actions of the board today, this just continues to give us momentum and shows everyone we're serious about building a program and building it the right way."
"There is work left to do," Fox said.
Aces win by walk-off
RENO - David Winfree launched a two-out solo home run to center field in the bottom of the 12th inning, giving the Reno Aces a comeback, 13-12 victory over the Tacoma Rainiers Thursday night at Aces Ballpark.
