WARF working for animal welfare

It is heartbreaking to see so many animals that have been affected because of lost jobs and housing. Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation (WARF) is one of several non-profit groups that assists people and pets. Right now there is huge need for volunteers to assist with the cats that are in our care. Please consider giving a few hours of your time each week (or whatever you can spare) to help by doing some feeding, cleaning and socializing at our foster home in Carson. We, and the cats, will be extremely grateful. Please call WARF and leave a message, 775-833-2319.

Editor's Note: The following letter was originally written to Carson City Fire Chief Stacey Giomi from Storey County Fire Chief Gary Hames. It is reprinted here as a demonstration of the mutual aid the counties' emergency services provide each other and how it benefits these neighboring communities.

Chief Giomi,

I wanted to personally thank you for the work performed by CCFD B-2 last Friday evening [July 29] within our Mark Twain district. I do not know the Acting Captain's name, but he performed extremely well. That single engine literally saved upwards of four structures that were immediately threatened. They pushed the fire away from structures and got it going in a direction away from the other structures. I can't tell you in writing how well this engine crew performed.

On Saturday afternoon at the Bain Fire I again was fortunate enough to receive CCFD E-2 with Captain Santos. These guys got the crap kicked out of them protecting structures. Your crew not only saved structures again, but then worked non-stop to mop up around numerous other structures. Our goal was to try to tie two divisions together to try to contain forward progress and the fire running at other structures. The Division Supervisors wanted to cut line between them to assure we did get a run again towards other structures. Your type one engine tooled up, without even being asked, and jumped in to get this hand line put in place.

In closing, I can't tell you in an email how much I respect you and your crews.
