Fandango hosting drag races at Reno-Fernley raceway this weekend

Drag racing at Reno-Fernley Raceway continues at 6 p.m. today.

Casino Fandango is teaming up with the raceway to host quarter-mile drag racing.

Racing is open to anyone, including bikes. Cost is $5 for spectators - 12 and younger free - and $35 for those wanting to race. There will be prizes award, to compete for up to $2,000, the entry fee is $45 per vehicle. Parking is $5.

There will be a beer garden and food vendors.

Celebrate Railfest today

Celebrate the history of the Virginia & Truckee Railroad this weekend during the sixth annual Virginia City/Carson City Railfest in Virginia City.

Saturday events include:

• Pose for a photo from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. with Virginia City's Living Legends at the Delta Saloon parking lot (next to the Bucket of Blood Saloon). Bring your own camera.

• Battle Born Civil War Reenactors educational booth is open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Stop by the F Street Train Depot to experience a better understanding of the American Civil War and how it helped shape the country we live in today through living history.

• The Moon Over the Comstock V & T Ride will be offered from 7-9 p.m. Escape to the Comstock and relax on a romantic full moon evening train. The journey begins with a light box dinner and one glass of wine in a souvenir Railfest wine glass. Additional wine is $3. Enjoy the nocturnal view of American Flat through the light of the silver moon. Food and wine sponsored by Secret Service Catering. The cost is $38 per person. Adults 21 and over only. The festival also is celebrated at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Cost is adults $5, children 17 and under free.

RV campout planned

The Carson City Roadrunner RV Club is having its monthly meeting/campout Aug. 26 through Aug. 29 at the Scott Lake turnoff from Highway 88 from Douglas County.

Free clothing offered

The Carson City Nevada Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is opening its doors to the public today only offering free gently used clothing and shoes. Participants need to bring black trash bags to carry out their selections.

Hours are from 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Any clothing that is left over will be donated to various identified community agencies.

The Mormon Church is located at 411 N. Saliman Road just south of Carson High School. Because of a city project involving the closure of Saliman right in front of the church, people need to use the parking lot and doors on the north side of the church.
