Carson City resident Jonah Navarro, 11, died at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
Diagnosed with brain cancer in 2010, it quickly spread to Jonah's hip and back. As a result, doctors declared Jonah as terminal three weeks ago.
The "Tenors for Jonah" benefit concerts to assist the Navarro family will still go on.
The first concert is at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Community in Carson City at 7 p.m. Sept. 6, and the second is at 7 p.m. Sept. 12 at St. Gall Catholic Church in Gardnerville.
"Jonah is the eldest of six children. As you can imagine, Jonah's family is struggling mightily with medical expenses as well as everyday needs," organizer Henry Melendres said.
The family's only income is from Jonah's father who teaches private music lessons, and doesn't have insurance.
"The family has been dealing with repeated emergency trips to the hospital, and they've had to get babysitters for the five younger children," Melendres said.
The charity concert consists of three Carson City tenors singing a variety of operatic songs imitating the three great tenors, Jose Carreras, Placido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti.
They will also perform Disney music and other popular songs.
