Coin collectors and numismatists from all over the country will be flocking to town for the Carson City Mint Coin Show today and Saturday hoping to snag a coveted Mint Mark "CC" coins and other collectibles.
The hobby of coin collecting is more popular than ever before, thanks to the high price of gold.
Twenty-five dealers will be on hand from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. both days, giving free appraisals and offering valuable wares to buy, sell, and trade.
The show provides wholesome family fun with gold panning ($5 each) and a free children's treasure chest too.
Prizes will be raffled off both days, culminating in the grand prize drawing at 3 p.m. on Saturday of three special commemoratives: one ounce .999 fine silver medallion, celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the Nevada Territory; brass Abraham Lincoln Medallion; and brass Carson City Mint Medallion. Each medallion was minted on Historic Coin Press No. 1. Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $ 5, and can be purchased on site or over the phone by calling 775-687-4810, ext. 237. Proceeds support education and exhibits at the Nevada State Museum.
Admission is free for museum members and children 17 and under; non-member adult admission is $8 per day. Entrance fee includes the coin show and all exhibits.
