CLEVELAND (AP) - Carlos Santana and Jack Hannahan hit two-run homers for Cleveland and the scrappy Indians kept pace in the AL Central race by beating the Oakland Athletics 6-2 on Tuesday night.
Jeanmar Gomez (1-2) allowed one unearned runs over six innings after being recalled from Triple-A Columbus. He took the rotation spot vacated by Josh Tomlin, who is on the Indians' disabled list with a sore right elbow.
Cleveland continues trying to overcome injuries and gain ground in its division, winning four of five. The Indians entered play a half-game behind the second-place Chicago White Sox and 5 1/2 behind first-place Detroit.
Santana connected for his 21st homer with one out in the sixth inning off Trevor Cahill (9-13) to put the Indians ahead 4-1. After Cahill hit Shelley Duncan with a pitch, Fautino De Los Santos came on and yielded Hannahan's sixth homer to make it 6-1.
Cahill fell to 1-6 in nine starts since the All-Star break. He opened the season 6-0 with a 1.72 ERA through May 14, but is 3-13 since.
Oakland has lost four straight and five of six.
Kosuke Fukudome's two-run double put Cleveland up 2-0 in the third.
Lou Marson was safe with an infield single as shortstop Cliff Pennington got to his grounder up the middle but couldn't make a play. Ezequiel Carrera followed with another infield single on a ball tapped past Cahill. Pennington came in and scooped it up with a nice play, but his throw could not catch the speedy Carrera at first.
Fukudome, hitting .379 (11 of 29) with five RBIs over his last eight games, then doubled to the wall in right-center, scoring both runners.
