SPARKS - Maribel Ledezma scored in the 50th minute to give Dayton a 1-0 upset win over Sparks in a Northern 3A soccer battle Tuesday afternoon.
Ledezma's goal was unassisted.
"She dribbled it up the middle and got by three or four defenders and took it all the way in," Dayton coach Jared Miklich said. "This was a big win for us.
"I was happy with all the players. We only had 13 suited up, and they all played hard and well."
Miklich praised the play of defender Savannah Parsons and goalie Muranda Fowler.

Douglas rallies for win
MINDEN - After two sets, Whittell and Douglas were tied at a set apiece, and the Warriors were a point away from going up 2-0, leading 24-21.
The Tigers roared back to take that game, 27-25, and the subsequent two 25-21 and 25-22. Whittell won the opener 25-23.
Douglas coach Suzi Townsell said she didn't know what to expect heading, except that Whittell always gives the Tigers a solid fight.
"Our effort hadn't been where we like it to be in practice the last week, but we came into tonight with two key words: 'Team' and 'Believe.'," she said. "I think that's what carried us tonight. They saw they were in for a fight after that first game and really answered the call."
Trailing 24-21 in the second, Townsell called a timeout in hopes of stemming the Warriors' momentum.
Douglas came out of the break and rattled off three consecutive points to tie the game up. The teams traded points twice before Douglas pushed ahead for the win.
Each team carried a lead at least once in each game. Douglas held off charges from Whittell at the end of both the third and fourth games to clinch the win.
Douglas senior setter Hailey Sclafani dished out 36 assists in the match while seniors Cassi Uhart and Savannah Wood each recorded 11 kills. Katie McCullough added six kills in her first varsity match and Amanda Wartgow had five.
