Another epidemic of frightful accidents has begun on the Comstock. Henry Daughterty caught a young live cottontail rabbit near the reservoir yesterday. It is as tame as just about any domestic animal. Charles Foreman, superintendent of the Overman Mining Company, has been appointed Major General of the Nevada State militia.
100 YEARS AGO
William Woodburn, Joe Josephs and Henry Rosenbrock journeyed to Virginia City where several other old-timers were. They held the last meeting of the Exempt Firemen of the old lode. The last meeting was in 1900, when quite a number responded. Many reminiscences were dug up and talked over.

Gov. E.P. Carville stated today that civilian defense organizations throughout the state of Nevada, state reserve police have been contacted and all Nevada sheriffs have been given instructions to maintain control over airfields and ground all planes after the U.S. Declares war on Japan. The governor calls on all officials to be alert and ready to deal with any situation or emergency. The F.B.I. Is checking all Japanese in Nevada. Hawthorne is put under permanent blackout.

The U.S.S. Nevada Memorial services schedule: 7:20 a.m. Arrival of Stead Air Force Base buses to city limits. 7:40 a.m. Carson High School Band will march to state museum. 7:55 a.m. Welcome address by Honorable Grant Sawyer, Governor. Response, Honorable Clark J. Guild. National Anthem, Carson High School Band, Director Al Saliman. Raising of the Colors from the U.S.S. Nevada.

Juvenile probation and the sheriff's department are reminding youths curfew will be enforced - 10 p.m. Curfew arrests have increased from 69 in 1990 to 111 in 1991 according to Chief Probation Officer Bill Lewis.

Lyon Commissioners are to decide new boundaries for the counties five districts at the next meeting.
