The Douglas boys' basketball team started the first and second halves strong and rode a balanced scoring effort to a 67-37 win over rival Carson High in Minden Friday night.

Douglas had four players finish in double figures scoring with junior Hunter Myers leading the way at 13 points, including one 3-pointer.

Trevor Shaffer, Jake Tessman and Austin Evans each had 11 in the win.

Douglas opened the game on an 8-0 run, and turned a 30-15 lead at halftime into a blowout with a 12-1 run to open the second half.

"I was happy with the way we came out, but again it comes back to staying consistent," Douglas coach Corey Thacker said. "That's something we struggled with against North Valleys and tonight we let Carson battle back a bit."

Thacker said he was impressed with Carson, though, and expects them to be much-improved when the schools square off in their two league games later this season.

"They're going to get a lot better," Thacker said. "Their football guys are still getting into condition. It's going to be a battle the next two times we face them so we have to get ready for that."

Rafe King led the Senators with 14 points and three 3-pointers. Matt Nolan added 10, Logan Krupp scored three and Chris Lopez, Bruce MacIntosh, Dylan Sawyers and Charlie Banfield each added two.

Douglas ran up a 15-5 lead through the first quarter before King, who had Carson's first eight points, hit a 3-pointer to close the gap early in the second quarter.

A basket from MacIntosh narrowed the deficit to 15-10 before an 11-0 run from the Tigers opened the game back up.

Carson was held without a field goal over the first five minutes of the third quarter as Douglas extended the lead to 44-20 and a pair of 3-pointers from Evans at the close of the third put Douglas up 52-24.

"We didn't give up too many offensive rebounds," Thacker said. "There were good things happening."

Douglas got five points apiece from Steven Werth and Matt Wylie, Michael Nolting added four, Nate VonAhsen scored three and Connor Hughes and James Herrick each had two.

Douglas cruised to a 65-37 win over South Tahoe on Thursday night.

The Tigers held the Vikings to 10 points or less in each quarter and built a solid lead early on.

"Tahoe battled and played very aggressive," Thacker said. "We were more consistent defensively throughout the whole game. It was a good challenge for us to go against a zone."

Hunter Myers led the way for the Tigers, scoring 14 points with one 3-pointer. Trevor Shaffer had 11 points, Nate VonAhsen had nine points with a pair of 3-pointers, Nick Maestretti had nine points, Matt Wylie had six, Joe Syammach had five with a 3-pointer, Michael Nolting had four points, Austin Evans hit 3-pointer and Connor Hughes and James Herrick each had two points.

Jacob Stowell and Cale Backinger each had 10 points for the Vikings.
