Five officers and three NHP dispatchers will receive commendations Friday for their performance during the Sept. 6 shootings at the Carson City IHOP.

NHP Chief Bernie Curtis and Public Safety Director Chris Perry termed the performances during the tragedy as outstanding, saying all eight displayed a high degree of professionalism.

Three troopers, a sergeant and a lieutenant responded to the scene to assist the Carson City Sheriff's Office with duties that included closing down part of U.S. 395 near the restaurant so medical helicopters could land while others helped establish control of the scene.

Eduardo Sencion shot 11 people, killing four of them before turning the weapon on himself. When the calls started coming in, area law enforcement didn't know if it was an isolated incident or a terrorist attack.

Those being honored are Lt. Kevin Bailey, Sgt. Todd Hartline, Troopers Sean Giurlani, Scott Morron and Chris Austin and dispatchers Jennifer Schmidt, Serenity Simpson and Sara Macias.

They will be presented with commendations at 1 p.m. Friday in the Division of Emergency Management Building on Fairview Drive.
