Auditions set for 'Pajama Game'

The Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company announces open auditions for "Pajama Game" on Jan. 10 in Carson Nugget Community Hall, Aspen Building, at the Western Nevada College Carson City campus.

Singing and acting auditions for featured roles will begin at 6 p.m., and auditions for ensemble parts will begin at 8 p.m. Dance troupe auditions are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Jan. 12.

Scripts with vocal scores are on reserve at the WNC library so students can prepare for the audition.

Pajama Game is based on the novel "7-1⁄2 Cents" by Richard Bissell, featuring a score by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross. The musical depicts a dispute between management and workers at a pajama factory over a 7 1⁄2-cent raise.

Mile High Jazz Band presents Cool Jazz

Swing into the new year with the Mile High Jazz Band at Cool Jazz in January, a big-band event with vocalist Sheryl Adams from 8 to 10 p.m. Jan. 10 at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson St.

General admission is $5 at the door, and is free for ages 18 and under. Come early for dance instruction, 6:00 to 7:15 p.m., $5 additional.

The 19-member Mile High Jazz Band will perform hot jazz on a cold night, featuring music in the spirit of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Woody Herman, and more contemporary jazz styles selected from their repertoire of more than 100 charts.

Performances are funded, in part, by grants from the Nevada Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.
