The Carson High wrestling teams finds itself tied for third place after the first day of the Northern 4A Regional wrestling tournament.
The Senators have six wrestlers in the semifinals and haven't had a wrestler eliminated yet.
Coach Tim McCarthy said the Senators were in the lead after the first round before Spanish Springs (71 points) and McQueen (62 points) passed them. Carson is tied with Reno at 52 points.
In the semis for the Senators are: Kyle Sharp (103 pounds), Patrick Craugh (112 pounds), Nicholas Lani (119 pounds), Cole McCarthy (125 pounds), Jordan Luhrs (145 pounds) and Nico Garcia (160 pounds).
The elder McCarthy said Lani and Luhrs will be facing defending state champions in their semifinal matchups. He said the Sharp, Craugh, McCarthy and Garcia have more favorable matchups.
Working their way through the consolation bracket are: Sammy Mercado (112 pounds), Tristian Wadsworth (119 pounds), Ty Welch (130 pounds), Andrew Cunningham (135 pounds), Cody Cunningham (145 pounds), Aaron Lopez (171 pounds) and Jonathan Ampudia (189 pounds).
The top three in each weight class advance to state next weekend. The consolation round starts at 10 a.m. at Reno High School. The semifinals are scheduled to start at noon and the finals at 5:30 p.m.
