Seniors to take tour to Boomtown

The Carson City Senior Center's "Happy Senior Tours" group will travel to Boomtown on Tuesday, March 8. The bus will load at 7:45 a.m. in the east parking lot of the senior center. It will depart at 8:15 a.m. sharp and return to the center at 4 p.m.

NBC meets Wednesday

Nevada Business Connections' monthly networking breakfast is 8-9 a.m. Wednesday at Gold Dust West Casino, 2171 U.S. Highway 50 East. Doors open at 7:30 a.m. for networking.

The keynote speaker is Dr. Frederick Steinmann, managing principal of EDSolutions, LLC Economic Development.

Mark Twain fire safe event planned

The Nevada Fire Safe Council, Mark Twain Estates Chapter, is sponsoring an event to raise community awareness and understanding of wildfire and the actions necessary to increase community protection.

The wildfire prevention, membership drive and fundraiser event will be 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Feb. 26 at the Storey County Fire Station No. 3, 500 Sam Clemens Ave., off Six Mile Canyon Road in Mark Twain, east of Dayton.

There will be free food, beverages, music and raffle prizes.

Participating agencies are Nevada Division of Forestry, University of Nevada, Reno Cooperative Extension, State Farm Insurance, animal rescue, Story County Fire Department and the Storey County Sheriff's Office.

Tickets on sale for Lutheran school fundraiser

Sierra Lutheran High School, located at North Sunridge, will host its 9th annual dinner and auction "Empowering Minds Enriching Hearts" March 5 at Genoa Lakes Golf Club. Proceeds benefit the students' families through tuition assistance.

An elegant dinner will be prepared by The Supper Club in Antoci's.

A live auction includes such items as a mountain getaway for two at Squaw Valley, wine connoiseur's dream wagon, fly-fisherman's dream package, 1930s murder mystery for eight in Glenbrook and a side of beef.

A silent auction includes dining out gift cards, lodging and adventures, jewelry and spa packages, Western art pieces and more.

The Dollar$ for Scholar$ drawings will give away a 50-inch plasma TV, iPad, and an HP Pavilion laptop. Tickets are $5 per ticket or five tickets for $20 and winners need not be present.

The tickets for the event as well as tickets for the drawing can be purchased at the school, located at North Sunridge, or from any of the students at Sierra Lutheran High School.
