From Frank T. Gilbert (continued from Sunday): On the third day we rode over the battlefield, a distance of some 18 miles. As we came to a place where a white man had been killed or of some special event, they would stop and tell the story in a slow, dreamy way. With hand gesticulations, a transcription of events was told before the interpreter even opened his lips. In this manner those secrets between the slayer and the dead, were revealed (continued on Wednesday).

Two women have drowned at Red House after the Virginia Water Company's holdings gave way. The railroad people have been informed to watch for high water at Franktown.

70 YEARS AGO

The flag at the Eagles' building is at half mast for the passing of Richard T. (Dick) Bright, charter member of Carson Aerie No. 1006, Fraternal Order of Eagles since 1905. He operated The Tavern and Dick's Bar.

The handwritten original first half of Mark Twain's "Huckleberry Finn" is found in an attic in New York, lost for more than a century. The rough draft was found by the granddaughter of the library curator that Twain originally presented it to.

Thanks to the California energy crisis and the closing of the Ormsby House, Carson City finished the calendar year with the third straight month of negative gaming numbers.
