Power restored after Reno storm knocks down line

The winter storm blowing through the Sierra briefly knocked out power to hundreds of people in northern Nevada but utility officials say it should all be restored by now.

NV Energy spokesman Karl Walquist says nearly 800 customers were affected for about an hour Tuesday afternoon on the southwest edge of downtown Reno but the lights were back on by about 4:15 p.m.

The outage was caused by a tree branch that fell onto a power line.

Walquist says there were numerous other small outages, including along the Mount Rose Highway, to the north of Reno in Stead and to the northwest in Nixon and Wadsworth. But there are no reports of power failures in the area at this time.
